DENVER – As Patty Limerick begins her role as State Historian she is requesting Coloradans to help develop History Colorado’s next exhibits. Limerick called out in her letter to the public, “As I begin my term, I ask for your help. As a Coloradan who appreciates the value of history in our lives, you have ideas, inspirations, and aspirations I should have in mind.”
What: Alfred Packer is Colorado’s most famous cannibal who confessed to eating his companions in the winter of 1874, but insisted he did not murder them. This week the object reveal is Alfred Packer’s 1851 revolver. Our curators do not have concrete evidence to support that this gun was used in the murder of Packer’s companions or found at the murder site. However, the initials AP are carved behind the trigger loop, and the donor’s story supports the claim that the gun belonged to Packer.
Clue: We are excited to make our debut again. We miss the days with the Silver Queen, the supportive American Indian woman and our beloved Titanic survivor.
